Through an agreement signed on Friday, 18 June 2010, the Mehiläinen Group will acquire Human Care Network (HCN) in the largest transaction ever concluded by the Group. Matti Bergendahl (43) has been appointed as the new President and Chief Executive Officer of Ambea AB. Bergendahl, who has been Deputy CEO of Ambea since 2007 and CEO of Mehiläinen Oy since 2005, replaces Ralph Riber who will take up new challenges outside the company. Ambea, the largest private provider of health care and nursing services in the Nordic countries, announced on 23 February that it would be acquired by the Triton private equity group by the end of March. The acquisition was finalised on 31 March 2010, but with the addition of Kohlberg Kravis Roberts & Co (KKR) as a partner for Triton. Mehiläinen Oy, Finland’s best-known and most respected private social and health care services provider, is a part of the Ambea Group. The Mehiläinen Group has been chosen as one of the government's contracted national health care service providers from the beginning of 2010. Hansel Oy, the organisation responsible for government procurement tenders, has chosen Mehiläinen to be one of the two national service providers for the whole of mainland Finland, chosen under the so-called 'framework agreement'. Mehiläinen Oy has on this date purchased the entire share capital of Porin Pihlajalinna Oy and the business operations of Torilinnan lääkäriasema Oy. Following the transaction, the operations of Mehiläinen Pori will continue at the current addresses of the companies, in the centre of Pori at Eteläkauppatori 4 and in Ulvila at Tommilantie 2. The personnel of the companies, a total of six employees and nine medical practitioners, will also continue as before following the change of owner. Read more »

Jani Mikkola, M.Sc.(Econ), B.Soc.Sc, has been appointed Sales Director in the Mehiläinen Group as of 3 August 2009. Jani Mikkola, 36, currently holds the position of Major Client Relationship Manager in the Ilmarinen Mutual Pension Insurance Company, where he is responsible for major and medium-sized clients' sales and customer relationships as well as the development of service concepts for the clients. Peippo Hospital, Finland's first private psychiatric hospital for children, will open its doors in Hyvinkää on 28 May 2009. The hospital's patient capacity is eight and services are offered for children between 7 and 12 years of age.
