Time: 28.05.
Matti Bergendahl (43) has been appointed as the new President and Chief Executive Officer of Ambea AB. Bergendahl, who has been Deputy CEO of Ambea since 2007 and CEO of Mehiläinen Oy since 2005, replaces Ralph Riber who will take up new challenges outside the company. Bergendahl will also continue as CEO of the Mehiläinen Group.
Ambea is the largest private healthcare and care services group in the Nordic countries. Its subsidiary, Mehiläinen, is Finland’s best-known and most respected private healthcare and care services provider. The Ambea Group also includes Carema Healthcare and Carema Care which operate in Sweden and Norway. Earlier this year Ambea was acquired by Triton and KKR (Kohlberg Kravis Roberts & Co).
“Matti Bergendahl’s appointment will further strengthen Ambea. Bergendahl has an excellent track record in the Mehiläinen Group and we believe he is the right man to lead Ambea into a new phase of development,” says Magnus Lindquist, Chairman of Ambea’s Board of Directors.
Matti Bergendahl has had a long and diverse career in the healthcare and care industries. He has not only served the Mehiläinen Group in several management positions since 2002, including CEO since 2005, but has also served as Chairman of the Private Healthcare Association (a member of the Confederation of Finnish Industries EK), and as a member of the boards of EK’s central organisation, the Service Sectors’ Association and the Healthcare Services Companies’ Association. Bergendahl graduated with MD and MBA degrees and is a docent and specialist in paediatric care.
“As the leading Nordic healthcare and care group, Ambea is in an extremely interesting phase of development and I look forward to my work as CEO with a good deal of optimism. In developing Mehiläinen and Ambea I will also have the support of a very committed and professional team of managers and staff,” says Matti Bergendahl.
